AppFolio's FUTURE conference is where many single-family and multifamily operators see where property management software is heading. At FUTURE 2026, one of the sessions on the AI track was a debate with Wolfgang Croskey.

What was the FUTURE 2026 session?

FUTURE 2026 ran September 28 to October 1, 2026 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego, with Dr. Maya Shankar and Andre Agassi as the opening and closing keynote speakers. The official 2026 agenda lists Wolfgang on Tuesday, September 29, from 12:00 to 12:30 PM, in a debate tagged Artificial Intelligence, titled "3 AI Agents, 0 Developers: Building with the Data You Already Have," with Josh Winch.

The organizer has not published a description. The title points to an idea that matters to owners: a company can build small AI helpers from the records it already keeps, such as repair history and rent payments, without hiring a team of software developers. One attendee who posted about the event on LinkedIn said Wolfgang shared a list of more than 50 names for the AI agents he uses and joked with the audience about what they call theirs.

Why does naming your AI helpers matter?

Think of an AI agent as a narrow worker with one job, such as sorting incoming maintenance messages or drafting a reminder. A name and a limited job make it easier to ask the questions that matter to an owner:

  • What is this agent allowed to do? A short, clear job description is easier to check than "it handles everything."
  • Who reviews its work? A person should be accountable for anything it sends to a resident or an owner.
  • What happens when it is wrong? There should be a way to catch and correct the mistake.
