Moving out? Here’s how to give notice the right way.

Step 1: Decide your move-out date

Choose the date you plan to be fully moved out of the property. This should be the date when:

• All personal belongings are removed
• Cleaning is complete
• Utilities are handled according to your lease
• Keys, remotes, and access devices are ready to be returned
• The property is ready for the final move-out inspection

Do not choose a date when you are "starting to move." Choose the date you will be completely out.

Step 2: Submit the notice to Croskey Real Estate

The preferred way to give notice is the Give Notice to Vacate form on this page. Filling it out serves as your written notice and gives Croskey Real Estate the information needed to start the move-out process.

Email notice may also be accepted, but the form is the clearest way to make sure all required details are submitted in one place.

Your notice must be written and complete, whether you submit it through the official form or as a letter or email. Have this information ready:

• Your full name
• Property address
• Today's date
• Your planned move-out date
• Your forwarding address, if available
• Best phone number and email
• A clear statement that you are giving notice to vacate
• Your signature, if submitting a letter or PDF

Step 3: Wait for confirmation

After you submit your notice, Croskey Real Estate will review it and begin the move-out process. You should receive confirmation that your notice was received.

If you do not receive confirmation, follow up. Do not assume the notice is official until Croskey Real Estate has received it.

Step 4: Coordinate the move-out process

Once your notice is received, our team may coordinate next steps with you, including:

• Confirming your move-out date
• Explaining how to return keys
• Scheduling or discussing inspections
• Providing move-out instructions
• Explaining what must be completed before you leave

Tenants often ask how to turn in keys, whether someone meets them at the property, and how the final inspection works. Croskey Real Estate will guide you through those next steps once your move-out is being processed.

Step 5: Prepare the property before you leave

Before your move-out date, make sure:

• All personal items are removed
• The home is cleaned
• Trash is removed
• Yard responsibilities are handled, if applicable
• Utilities are managed according to your lease
• Any damage beyond normal wear and tear is addressed
• All keys, garage remotes, HOA cards, pool keys, and access devices are ready to return

Fees may apply if keys, garage remotes, HOA cards, or pool keys are not returned. The costs and fees page lists the rekey cost and replacement charges for unreturned access items.

Step 6: Return keys and possession

Your move-out is not complete until possession is returned. That usually means:

• You are fully moved out
• The property is vacant
• Keys and access devices are returned
• Croskey Real Estate can access the property
• The final move-out process can begin

If keys are not returned, Croskey Real Estate may not be able to treat the property as fully surrendered.

Step 7: Final inspection and deposit process

After you move out, Croskey Real Estate will inspect the property condition. The inspection helps document:

• Cleaning condition
• Damage beyond normal wear and tear
• Missing keys or remotes
• Maintenance issues
• Items left behind

If deductions apply, they are handled according to the lease and applicable law. Leaving the property clean, empty, and ready for inspection helps the deposit process go as smoothly as possible.
